Abstract

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a gold standard procedure for severely obese patients. However, it has not widely been performed in Korea where the incidence of gastric cancer is high because it is difficult to exam a remnant stomach after RYGB. Recently, a concept of resectional RYGB, that is, near total gastrectomy with RYGB, has been introduced to solve this problem. The same morbidity and outcomes after resectional RYGB were reported as conventional RYGB, but not many. On the contrary, some expert endoscopists insist that deep enteroscopy such as single- or double-ballooned enteroscopy is feasible to access into the gastric remnant after RYGB. The authors aimed to review the current status of ¡®resectional RYGB¡¯ and ¡®deep enteroscopy after non-resectional RYGB¡¯, and to advise which is more applicable to Korean morbid obese patients.
